Reading “Trumpet of the Swan” to my children, the main character, a 10 year old named Sam Beever, discovers a nest of Trumpeter Swan eggs.
"I don’t know of anything in the entire world more wonderful to look at than a nest with eggs in it. An egg, because it contains life, is the most perfect thing there is. It is beautiful and mysterious... An egg will someday be a living creature.”
I find the eggs are hopeful. They remind me that the design is good. There are so many simple ways to see beauty in design and in that reflection, the creator's hand. An egg is no exception. How we take for granted these super simple and common things, but an entire life is formed in an egg. From a little egg comes a big swan, or a tiny finch, a bald eagle, a common raven, an ostrich, a parrot, a canary, a penguin, so many different crazy birds out there.
And we are supposed to consider the birds....
Each egg is made with concrete, plaster and paint.
