Her face is a bit wrinkled and her halo is the moon and stars of a night sky. Sabbath rest is considered the beginning. Rest is fuel. Of all the ways we could be designed and of all the things we can think to do with our time, we spend a lot of our lives asleep. In sleep we have no control over our physical bodies or over what we will dream. We are conscious and alive, but we are not awake. For all that we put into production, for the ways we manage time and try to control it, sleep is beyond our ability control. We have to give into it to receive it. Rest is replenishing, regenerative, healing, creative. We want to be awake, to have eyes open to see and lives that produce fruit but “The Sabbath is a reminder to simply stop. To stop working, stop wanting, stop worrying. The Sabbath is an invitation to enter delight.”
